Addictive Behaviour have been releasing upfront Drum & Bass for nearly 5 years now. In that time they have built a meticulous back catalogue of music showcasing quality producers from around the globe. For their latest EP ‘Transitions’ Addictive welcome back some regulars to the label and also present a few newcomers to their ever growing roster of talent. Keeping true to their ethos of only putting out the very best music, these 4 tracks are certainly of that same high standard.
Mystic State & Third Degree kick off the EP with the stepper that is ‘Under The Shadow’. An ominous introduction of sinister atmospherics suddenly cuts away, plunging you into the unknown. From the shadows comes this beat of militant drums, tribal breaks and undulating bass out of nowhere. The intricate detail throughout showcases these producers great technical ability and unique style. Big sounds coming out of the South West currently.
Stepping up next, Bristol based producer Sam Binary makes his debut on Addictive Behaviour with ‘March of the Mutants’. This futuristic jungle riddim lures you in with other worldly howls creating a real feeling of suspense. Then come the drums, big and industrial drums! As ‘March of the Mutants’ progresses it keeps evolving and giving something extra for the listener at every corner. Those cuts in the beat filled with an evil cackle sample before slamming the tune back in gets me every time. 7 minutes of pure fire right here.
Addictive Behaviour welcome a new production outfit ‘Trojan Sound‘ to the label for the third track of the EP. A new name for most but the duo behind this project (Sam Kalm & James Draize) are by no means new to the scene. Both are owners at their own labels Nurtured Beatz & Lost Recordings respectively and producers in their own right. However after hearing their debut track ‘Return to Dust’ you can clearly hear why they have joined forces to create this project. Crisp drums layer over a murky bass line to create an exceptionally crafted roller which is sure to have your head firmly nodding. We are hearing this is only the beginning from these two, so make sure to keep your ears to the ground for more.
Rounding off this excellent EP, Wingz delivers us my pick of the 4 tracks ‘Faceless’. The Vienna based producer has gained support from heavyweights Noisia as well as releasing on two In Reach approved labels: Flexout Audio & Demand Records. This tune packs a real punch when the fierce sub bass kicks in on the drop. If you haven’t got your war face on when listening to ‘Faceless’, you aren’t listening to it loud enough!
I do love a Various Artist release from the Addictive camp, always packed to the brim with top drawer music and this latest EP is certainly no different. It’s always exciting to see underground talent being supported especially when the talent is this good!
Make sure you go and cop all 4 tracks which are now out exclusively on Beatport right here.
