After the success of their ‘Why Don’t You’ EP on Spearhead Records, RoyGreen & Protone are back with the first release of the year on the prestigious CIA Deepkut, packed full of rollers that provide a fresh punch while also giving a nod to the dirty breaks that Deepkut prides itself on.
To kick things off, ‘Resting’ featuring Electrosoul System eases in with waves of synths before a heavy break gives a taste of the glory to come. This vibe is maintained as the tracks gets deeper with the warmest of subs supporting the delicate soulful vocal. Electrosoul’s presence is known as growls soon layer this tune to given even more texture.
‘Neptune’ continues this carefully constructed vibe with a soothing pad underneath delicate French vocal adlibs. Haunting arpeggiated flute stabs help this track breathe, which is needed over the top of the relentless drum break.
Taking a different turn, the dancefloor roller ‘Prince Vlad’ offers the listener a harder variation from the liquid bangers on this release. With a husky vocal hook and Dracular-esque horror film samples, this track launches into a think break laden old school drum beat with a growling bass thrown in for good measure.
To end this superb release, the listener is rewarded with the wonderfully lilting and picturesque ‘Suburbs’. With a constant and steady filtered piano, ‘Suburbs’ opens up to a relaxed liquid masterpiece with a shimmering Trumpet line giving that extra shine on a truly polished relaxed liquid roller.
