Konnect – Margate / Six Foot Deep (Conjunction Recordings)

Next up on burgeoning British drum and bass label Conjunction Recordings comes the debut release from newly minted tag-team Konnect.

Formed of seasoned MC-turned-producer and Fabriclive resident 2Shy and much-loved Bassdrive radio DJ Promo ZO, the insurgent pair first made their mark last summer with a well-received free flip of DLR, Script & Fokus’s “Perception” and have since been honing their craft as a duo, with the fruits of their labour now coming to light.

The two-tracker’s humorous first serving, “Margate”, is a gritty, Peaky Blinders-inspired bulldozer of a track, its title and sample referencing the two producers’ Kent roots. Piercing basslines, choppy snares and throbbing synths slice through the mix with expert precision, resulting in a no-nonsense dancefloor damager. “Six Foot Deep”, meanwhile, is a comparatively atmospheric affair, opening with swirling pads, flitting percussion and patois-steeped vocals, its brooding, minimal sonics launching without warning into a cantankerous second drop to make for gripping results.
