Joe Ford – All Of Us EP

With a surge of super talented young producers emerging in the last few years, the bar really has been raised and Joe Ford is certainly shaping up as one of the main ones to watch. Of course, being the tech-head drum and bass fan I am, even a whisper of his new material gets me going so I was chuffed when this landed in my inbox.
‘All Of Us’ is the frenetic debut EP from the early twenty-something out now on Friction’s Shogun Audio. Those that aren’t aware of Joe Ford and his sound, I’d whole-heartedly advise you to get listening. His position on one of the scene’s pre-eminent headsy labels is self-evident; with production skills arguably on a par with some of the scenes most accredited producers. A strong focus on unique sound design really elevates his personal brand of high-energy tech, making his tunes easily recognizable in the dance.

Showcasing an array of different styles, but maintaining a coherent sound throughout; ‘All Of Us’ is a perfect example of what Joe Ford is about.
First up from our two selections from the EP is the title track ‘All Of Us’. This dramatic intro with steel tones partnered with a tight, futuristic drum line gives the listener an impending sense of something big to come. Laced with the main vocal; the track steadily builds with some sort of skippy, robotic pan-pipe before dropping into a chaotic, winding frenzy of sound design madness. Joe Ford does not hold back on this one.

Next is ‘Crossbreed’ with label mate and all round electronic production aficionado, Icicle. This track is a firm favourite at the moment, with a winding progressive intro advancing into a half tempo bout of warping bass and snappy snares before the track drops into a severe, drum heavy tech pounder. The production quality on this one is immense – It’s not for the faint hearted.

All in all, with another 3 great tunes comprising the release, this is a must have for any avid heavy tech fan and top-notch ammunition to draw for especially for those moments when the rave just needs to be merked!
