Following on from the success of his first release ’Nesh’, Composite has served up his new EP ‘New Mind’ to be released on Context Audio.
From start to finish, New Mind fills your ears with rolling liquid vibes. With the distinctive and well-placed use of effects and samples throughout the EP, Composite takes you to the heart of the jungle, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in the amazon rain forest or somewhere just as chill on first listen. The natural sounds are melodically well placed against the liquid backdrop. In the EP, the Manchester based DJ and producer channels the ghosts of tracks long lost in the late 90’s. Toeing the line between Liquid DnB and Jungle, New Mind allows you to reminisce about raves past whilst remaining absolutely current.
Every track on the EP we’ve heard we love, all distinct in their own right, they each have something different to offer. There are definitely two which stand out to us here at In-Reach. Harmonic and haunting, featuring the soulful vocal talents of one of our very own Carly (AKA Charli Brix), Imbue stands out as a runaway track on the EP. Sitting firmly in the liquid vibe, the use of soft piano loops melting into bass tones and vocal cuts, makes for a track absolutely brimming with chill. HLZ’s remix of the EP’s title track New Mind takes a darker turn. The rolling bongo line over the top of cutting bass notes sets the tone well for a dark and ominous helping of liquid drum and bass.
Composite is going to be one to watch over the next few months and years we feel here at In-Reach. New Mind shows a level of freshness in its production, referring to any of the tracks on the EP as ‘bangers’ or ‘weapons’ would be an injustice, as it is that beautifully unique, whilst definitely influenced by artists and Dj’s from times past, Composite delivers.
You can purchase New Mind from Tuesday 28th November on Context Audios Bandcamp here
