Attention Outlook crew! Today is a big one and you’ve got some decisions to make. Tuesday saw the release of this years boat party line ups and there are some absolute steamers to choose from. Tickets go on sale at 8PM UK time tonight and they won’t last long, so you’ll need to be ready and waiting to bag your tickets for your favourite boats. If you’re like me you’ve probably been going over the line ups since the emerged, trying to figure out which ones to pick, so we’ve got our top picks for each day to try and help you along with your choices.
Kicking off with Thursday we’ve got to go with the mighty Metalheadz! The Metalheadz boat party has gained a legendary status at Outlook over the years and it’s not hard to tell why. Goldie’s label has been one of the pillars of the drum and bass scene since its conception, with a back catalogue like no other that I’m sure I won’t need to school you on. This one sets sale at midday on the Thursday and is the perfect way to kick your festival off with a bang. The deadly duo of Survival and Script who come together as Scar will be bringing some serious beats to the party, which you can get a taste of from they’re forthcoming release ‘The Orkyd Project’. The other two artists on the bill are Metalheadz new comer Detboi and the man who needs no introduction, label boss Goldie MBE. We can get a glimpse of these two’s recent work from their collaboration on Detboi’s ‘Joyride’ EP, which encapsulates this party’s ability to bring the perfect mixture of classic and fresh forward thinking drum and bass.
Moving on to Friday we’ve got a seriously tough choice to make with some massive parties such as the Just Jam boat featuring Zed Bias and Barely Legal, as well as the hugely enticing Full Cycle party with drum and bass legends Roni Size and Krust. However I’ve got to give my pick for Friday to So Fresh So Clean who have got the dutch maestro Lenzman performing a rare Hip Hop set. Anyone who’s checked out Lenzman’s Reminiscence mix series will know that this guy knows his hip hop, and teamed up with the So Fresh So Clean DJ’s, you’re head is guaranteed to be nodding through the entire 3 hour venture into the Adriatic.

With Saturday comes yet more seemingly impossible choices with the honourable mentions this time going to the Kurupt FM crew, and Noisa’s Invisible Recordings boat, hosting the prolific producers Ivy Lab and Skeptical, but for me there’s no other choice here but Soul:ution. This boat party looks set to be one of the highlights of the entire festival with a colossal line up of Calibre, Marcus Intalex and LSB. These are some of the most prestigious names when it comes to liquid drum and bass and all three have released some absolute gems on Marcus Intalex’ Soul:r over the years. Last year alone LSB graced us with an array of sublime tracks such as The View, Walking Blues and Mist of You, with Calibre and Marcus Intalex’ history on the label summed up beautifully by their collaborations with ST. Files as Mist:i:cal. It’s definitely the king of liquid, Calibre that tips this one over the others for me and I know I won’t be alone in saying that listening to Calibre grace the decks on a boat under the beaming Croatian sun sounds like something plucked straight out of some beautiful dream.
Rounding things off with Sunday, we’ve got a few landmark parties that I’m sure have got a lot of people seriously hyped. With Med School celebrating they’re 10th anniversary, Dj Hype’s Playaz boasting an incredible 20 years in the game and some mouth watering line ups from Hatcha and Friends and the masterfully named “Dub Phizix and Strategy’s well good boat”, there are some high quality escapades in store. But my pick has got to go to Dispatch Recordings who are taking to the sea for they’re 15th anniversary party. Ant TC1’s label has been one of the best sources around for the freshest underground drum and bass throughout its entire 15 year existence, and with a massive line up of Skeptical, DLR, Survival and the awesome duo of Gerra and Stone, theres no where better than here to get your fix of the rawest drum and bass Outlook has to offer.
So get your shortlists out, make those final choices and make sure you’re ready to bag your tickets! Head over to the boat parties page for more information and check below for the full list of line ups.
