Following on with our brand new series ‘#Back of the stack’, we’ll be catching up with artists in the scene every 2 weeks reminiscing on some of their favourite tracks from back in the day. No real rules, just sharing some musical knowledge and reflecting on the past.
Orbital – The Box
When I was a kid I taped video’s from MTV in the middle of the night. There was a program called ‘Party Zone’ and they played ‘dance music’. I remember taping this video somewhere in 1996 and re-watched it so many times. I really like the mysterious vibes in the track together with this awesome video. And off course those drums are amazing too.
Some side info ; Actress Tilda Swinton in this video also played in movies like ‘The Beach’ and ‘Burn After Reading’.
Capone – Friday
I never get bored of this tune. I still have exact the same reaction when I hear the drop of this tune like when I heard this in an Andy C mix tape with Stevie Hyper D on the mic. It’s a perfect example of ‘less is more’ and drum and bass. Just nothing more than that. Sometimes it’s difficult to drop classics in a set because of the new production are louder, cleaner, etc. But u always can drop a classic Dillinja tune and it still goes off!
Jonny L – Wish U Had Something
I always love playing the rollers and this is one of the biggest rollers I know. I met most of the people in this scene, but never met Jonny L. He has always been a mystery guest for me, but delivered great music non stop! With his album Sawtooth he was way ahead of time. What I also liked about Jonny L is that he always thought outside the box.
